After action report

Prologue

50 years ago in Saltburn by the Sea a young man and woman were to be wed on All Hallow’s eve. The Bride waited for the Groom to arrive by boat from his business holdings n the Low countries. He never arrived. His boat was wrecked off the coast near Whitby; all souls aboard lost to a mysterious plague that struck the ship during the crossing. Upon hearing the news the Bride fell into a coma, contracted a fever and died one month after her groom.

Every year since, on All Hallow’s Eve, the ghost of the Bride is said to rise from her crypt in the old cemetery and wander about the section of town that has come to be known as Brideswalk. It is said she still waits for her Groom to come to her so they can be wed. Over the years a festival has grown up around the legend. In recent years the Festival of the Bride has become a major attraction to Occultists and Mediums from all over the world.

This year things are a little different. A murderer stalks Brideswalk, preying on the prostitutes who ply their trade there. 8 women have been found so far, their throats torn, limbs near ripped from their bodies and drained of every drop of blood they had. Stories of Vampires are running amok all along the coast. To make matters worse it appears some kind of plague or sickness has taken over the town as well. Strange green fires are seen burning at night and some say that they have seen the dead walking again.

Setup for the game:

Each player had goals based upon his or her characters origin. Most were investing the same things but each one having a different name or supposition of what it was they were looking for. Several large fires were spread out across the town and it was these that were the generation places for the undead shamblers that tried to kill anything they could get to. Other, more elusive and dangerous occult foes wandered the town. The Undead had their own objectives as well. After waiting all this time the Bride 's beloved was coming home. The wedding would take place in the cemetary. All they had to do was find someone to perform the ceremony. Several of the players characters fit the requirements. The Bride would corrupt one of them to do her bidding while the Groom made his way though town destroying anyone who might interfere.

We used a heavily modified version of Valor Steel and Flesh fo rour rules. To simulate the lack of available light line of site was limited to 6 inches unless the target was somehow illuminated. Dummy markers were used to indicate places the monsters Might be moving about.

Photos of the battle:

The lay of the land lookingSoutheast.

The view from the cemetary looking East.

A look up the main street towards the cemetary. On the left in the rear you can see the propped up, abandoned home of the groom.

A look at the cemetary from the park across the street.

Another look at the cemetary.

All signs and portents indicated tonight's exposure to the unknown would test the limits of the heroes abilities.

A spectre charges out of the cemetary at the magistrates party.

The shambling hordes of restless dead seemed to crawl out of the burning pits that were scattered around the town. As squickly as the heroes could gun them down or hack off their heads more would appear.

Another Spectre attacks the Magistrates men as they flee into the park from the first.

The Uno Kid and his companions. Getting shanhiad wasn't bad enough they had to jump ship in the middle of a zombie jamboree.

The Bride makes an early appearance shaking the faith of the local priest. After two or three turns of spiritual combat the Priest was mor ethan willing to perform the wedding ceremony and was whisked off to the cemetary to await the imminent arrival of the groom.

The Magistrate and his footmen flee back to the house from the second spectre while barely visible behind them the Torchwood operatives are dealing with a rabble of crazed townsfolk. The dark made it hard to tell friend from foe.

The Groom, Forvalaka, Vampire, Bridewalk Killer makes his debut appearance on the streets, making fairly quick work of the Magistrates men.

After killing Father George a pack of vampire urchins lead the shamblers towrds more living victims.

After dispatching the magistrate the Groom was able to finally keep his appointment with the Bride. They were married by the corrupted priest in the cemetary. While thay may have wreaked havoc through the town on this night, once they were wed they would not be seen again. Or would they...?
